The history of the Rotary Club of Alhambra is steeped in its ceaseless efforts to eradicate polio. We first focused in the City of Alhambra.
In the '50s the club was instrumental supporting the March of Dimes and in the distribution of the polio vaccine throughout Alhambra schools.
The March of Dimes was a grassroots campaign run primarily by volunteers. Over the years, millions of people gave small amounts of money to support both the care of people who got polio and research into prevention and treatment. Those contributions financed Jonas Salk, Albert Sabin, and the other researchers who developed the polio vaccines that children around the world receive today.
In the 60, the club joined with the other Rotary Clubs to ensure the polio vaccine was distributied throughout the US and the South American countries.
Since the 70s, Rotary has been the tip of the spear attacking the desease. Rotary has one goal, total elimination of polio.
We encourage you to view the History of the Polio and the historical, humanitarian efforts of Rotary.
